The Company
Playback Theater PDX was founded by Jackie Paris in 2009. It has since been through many iterations but the focus has always been on accessing the power of story and theater to weave community, give witness, and honor experiences. In addition to public performances, Playback Theater PDX has worked with youth to explore the impact of bullying, recreated memories with those in memory care, and acted as a catalyst to address racism, homophobia, and other factors that impact social equity and safety. We love what we do and continue to work with schools, organizations, corporations, and private parties.
Avi has lived in Portland for more than 30 years. Raised in the Big Apple, Avi is retired and divorced with two grown children. When not conducting, he focuses on volunteering and community and continuing to try to solve the age-old conundrum how to start conversations without asking “How are you?”.

Teague Harvey
Teague Harvey (he/him) grew up in New Zealand, and received a BA in Dance and Computer Science from Oberlin College. Through his 20s, he became deeply committed to healing himself and others, which took him through somatics, various therapies, men’s work, grief rituals, energy healing, and the arts. In his free time, he likes to play music/piano, practice parkour, and dance the tango. He is honored to bring your story to life.
Leslie in childhood loved to put on a show. She’s loved and practiced Playback for 20 years — bringing real-life stories to the stage through the art of deep listening. A facilitator, storyteller, writer, and preacher, Leslie blends creativity, empathy, and presence to invite connection across difference. Working with organizations, she helps leaders embrace inclusive decision-making and authentic communication through immersive simulations, interactive learning and reflective facilitation. Whatever she does, she tries to stay rooted in a vision of the world where all needs matter.
RainbowStar (also Kezia, when it’s time to sign things) is a somatic, drama-informed therapist, painter, musician and mom — a Portland native whose performing life has wound through ballet stages, Nutcrackers with OBT, jazz singing groups and choirs, college theater, and contact improv jams. Her therapy practice was built on psychodrama and play therapy before delightedly discovering Playback. When not on stage, you can usually find her in the garden, play wrestling, or singing with her band HoneyBird.
